After about 15 hours of sleep, we woke up still pretty tired but
decided that at 1130 the day was almost over so we should probably drag
ourselves from the slumber (and warmth and comfort of bed) and enjoy the city of Vancouver!
We walked out the door of the hostel and looked at each other.. where do we start?!
A
few blocks up from the hostel we found a farmers market and wandered
through there for a while checking out all the fresh 'fall' produce!

After stumbling across a little restaurant and refuelling for
the day, we continued our adventure through the streets of Vancouver. One of
the first things we noticed was how clean the streets were!

We made our way
down along the seaway walk down through Yaletown, past the BC stadium (where
they play football) and Rogers Area (where they play hockey (when they actually
play)), across to the old Olympic Village past the science centre and then
mother nature kicked in. It started to lightly spit, our feet started to get a
bit sore and we decided it was time for a rest so we decided to find a Starbucks and sit down for a while!

Apparently boat moorings go from anywhere upwards of $100K! |

Karma.. there is always an abundance of things when you are
not looking for them, but they never appear when you actually need them!
Needless to say we finally found a Starbucks, logged onto the free WIFI’s (check out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg if you are not familiar with the free WIFI's) and
enjoyed (or at least consumed) our first (and hopefully last) Starbucks drinks
of the adventure!
On our way back to the hostel we passed a food market and
even though we had no plans on buying groceries adventured in anyway to explore
the fresh food and see how different a Canadian market in the middle of town, was
to a supermarket in Aus. There
was a salad bar where you could make your own salads which had all sorts of
things, from cooked quinoa, cous cous, lentils and a HUGE variety of fresh salad greens, a rather
large bread and deli section (with lots of Rhys and Emma (R&E) friendly
options :) )
and all my other favourite things, from almond butter, coconut oil, quinoa milk, bulk nuts..the list goes on! I was in heaven!
Our
introduction to Vancouver and Canada had been a success, we hadn't got
lost, melted in the rain or been eaten by bears so so far so good! We
were more than ready for the next day to begin and the rest of our adventure to continue!
